  • Jeb Corliss, the world-renowned human flier was injured today while performing a jump in South Africa at 10am this morning. Corliss was jumping with fellow flier Joby Ogwyn when he reportedly made contact with Table Mountain. Corliss smashed into the side of “the beauty spot” before plunging towards the ground and breaking both of his legs. It is estimated that he plummeted over 200 feet in his wingsuit, but fortunately he was able to deploy his parachute, which lessened his impact and without a doubt saved Jeb’s life.

Jeb made a successful jump from Table Mountain last week and was apparently making a follow-up run with a film crew for HBO. Despite the gravity of such an accident and his injuries, Jeb was reportedly in “good spirits” according to hospital officials.

America’s daredevil wingsuit base jumper has made his mark in the action sports industry by doing the impossible and embracing the title of “crazy”. He has earned international notoriety for his series of athletic feats performed by leaping off of the world’s most revered landmarks including the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro and Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Joby Ogwyn speculated that Corliss might have been blown off course by a strong gust of wind. Joby explained that he heard a sound that came from above him and made the realization that his commrade had crashed into the mountain side. He explained that, “It could have been a strange gust of wind; it could be that he got too close to the mountain.” Then when describing the moment of impact, “I’m not sure what happened. I heard a sound — it sounded like Jeb hit a ledge, it sounded like he hit it twice, pretty hard.”

He smashed into the side of the beauty spot before plunging towards the ground and breaking both his legs.

Hospital officials confirmed he was undergoing surgery in intensive care after his 10am jump. A spokeswoman named Michelle Norris, from the private Christiaan Barnaard Hospital in Cape Town, said: “I saw him in the emergency room and asked whether I could release details of his condition.

“He smiled at me and said, ‘Tell them I feel the best I ever have.’
